Kyle’s Episode: Everything you need to know about SaaS Pricing

Kyle has written one of the most popular pieces in this newsletter, The Ultimate Guide to B2B Saas Pricing & Packaging. So it was only natural to have him back for the podcast.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQMQ4XPTJ_U

In today’s episode, we turn to a broader topic: SaaS Pricing, generally. And we cover all the key levers you need to optimize to get it right:

    • How to Set Your Pricing (1:24)
    • Pricing Page (38:09)
    • Feature Paywalls (49:30)
    • Free to Paid Conversion (58:45)
    • Cancelation (1:17:50)
    • Pricing Quick Wins (1:11:05)

If you’re a PM, founder, or someone influencing pricing, this episode is bound to have a bunch of great takeaways for you.

Here are three of my favorites:

    • Common pricing mistakes include overly generous free plans, overcorrecting by gating too much, and not considering monetization early enough in product development.
    • Pricing should evolve as a company grows, often increasing substantially (60%+) in early stages.
    • The distinction between B2B and B2C pricing is mostly overblown, and each side should learn from the other.

You’ll have to check out the whole episode to get all the details.

Monetisation is more art than science.

But it’s grounded in strategy, not guesswork.

How to master monetisation in 8 steps:

    1. Customer Segmentation:

    Know who you’re selling to.

Not everyone will be your customer, and that’s okay. 🧐

    2. Segment Focus:

Zero in on your target segments.

It’s better to be a giant in a pond than a fish in the ocean. 🎯

    3. Packaging Approach:

How you package your offer can make or break the deal.

Align it with what your customer needs, not just what you want to sell. 📩

    4. Feature Allocation:

Not all features are created equal.

Prioritise based on your customer segments and what they value most. 🔍

    5. Messaging and Positioning: Your message is your magnet. Craft it to resonate, not just inform. 📣

    6. Pricing Strategy:

The price is more than a number.

It’s a reflection of value, market position, and strategy. đŸ’Č

    7. Price Levels Setting:

Simplify where you can, but don’t undersell your value.

Finding that balance is key. ⚖

    8. Sales and Pricing Rules:

Establish clear rules that empower your sales team to negotiate and close deals without giving away the farm. 🚜

    Remember:

    Monetisation is a journey.

It starts with understanding and ends with execution.

    But the path isn’t linear.

Iterate, refine, and above all, listen to your market.

    The blueprint isn’t just a plan—it’s a conversation.
